Veterinarians

Your License

Veterinarians are licensed and regulated by the California veterinary medical board. As always, a complaint can trigger an investigation, which can ultimately lead to the filing of a formal accusation.

Your Position

Veterinarians are in a unique situation, because while they not only practice general veterinary medicine, many perform surgeries, procedures, and operations in their clinic. As such, they administer various drugs, including controlled substances, directly to their patients. In this sense, they are similar to anesthesiologists who are unique among medical doctors, in that they are the physicians who actually handle and administer drug drugs directly to patients. Of course, diversion of controlled substances is not the only thing that veterinarians get into trouble for. Nonetheless, the process is basically the same : triggering event, investigation, accusation, settlement or administrative hearing.  And the response is the same: address the allegations with evidence to the contrary.
